Advice from an Archivist: Finding and Using Original Sources with Anne Foster
Description
January 16, 2024 7pm EST
How do you take that next step in your research and delve deeper into the lives and times of the original cast? Where do you find original documents and how do you access them? Archives are the places that hold these stories, but they can be opaque and sometimes intimidating to even seasoned historians. This session will provide an introduction to archival research and tips for making your research successful and efficient. The instructor will cover how archives work, where to find them, preparing for a research visit, and interpreting, organizing, and using your primary documents.
For the more experienced, the session will include an extended question
and answer session to help you locate those hard to find resources and move to the next phase of your project, whether that is crafting a first person portrayal or publishing.
Instructor Anne Foster holds a Masters in Library Science with an Archives Specialization and is a Certified Archivist. She has worked as an archivist for twenty-five years in museums, university, state, and federal repositories.
