Description

Tuesday June 16, 2026 7:00 to 8:00pm

In this class we will learn about how to learn from a fragile antique textile without altering it from its current form, thus destroying it further. We will examine garments in various states of conservation in order to get a better understanding of the benefits of purchasing garments in less than satisfactory condition.

Ways in which to determine various attributes and construction details of better conserved garments will also be covered. There is so much that can be learned from just touch alone that can help give one a better understanding of the construction of a garment.

Garments examined will range in age from 1770 to 1865 and the evolution of these garments can be seen firsthand. One will be able to grasp a very good understanding of the construction and minute details of garments within this age range. This will enable them to be better informed as to how there is a huge difference in how a garment from the 18th century was constructed versus ones from the early and mid-19th century and why.
