“Workin’ Hard, or Hardly Workin’?”
This program will focus on men’s work clothing during the mid-19th century. We will address when and where work clothing was most often worn, look at regional and cultural influences on working attire, and recognize some commonly seen dressing patterns in labor settings. Throughout the program, we will also visit various visual and descriptive sources from the era, as well as take a look at some extant working-class garments from the Merchant Tailor Museum collection.
